Friday, October 25th marked the end of a long time rivalry between Rancho Cucamonga High School and Los Osos High School. For many years, these two teams have gathered annually to play one of the most anticipated football games of the year while supporting Breast Cancer Awareness.
The 2019 Pink Out game was played at Rancho Cucamonga High School, with a week of spirit days leading up to the big night. When talking to Athletic Director Mr. Gardner about the importance of this week, he explained that the annual themed football game brings awareness to the people who have this devastating disease or have lost loved ones to it.
The night began with senior night for varsity football players, marching band members, and cheerleaders, as they all walked out to celebrate their high school memories and athletic careers. From the start to the end of the game, Rancho Cucamonga High School dominated once again; beating the Grizzlies with a final score of 41-6.
Quarterback CJ Stroud threw 31 times for 295 yards with three touchdowns – two to Silas Bolden and one to Colin Stites.
Quentin Moten ran 94 yards with seven carries and one touchdown alongside Elijah Monroe. Monroe had ten carries and proceeded to run for 90 yards, extending the Cougar’s record to 6-3 overall and establishing their league record as 3-1.
After the game I got a chance to talk to offensive lineman Senior Mason Baker about how it felt to play Los Osos High School one final time. He said, “It was fun to beat Los Osos one last time and finish the rivalry on a high note… Winning this game brings the team steaming into the matchup against Upland [sic].”
Center Noah Costumble had this to say about the task at hand of defending the baseline championship and the opportunity to go back to back leading into the CIF Playoffs, “Nothing is guaranteed. Upland is a pretty good team and Justin Flowe is a force to be reckoned with, but we are a force to be reckoned with as well. It does not matter who is on the field, we are here to defend our baseline league championship at the end of the day.”
So with that, Rancho Cucamonga High School’s varsity football team gets ready to defend their baseline league championship against Justin Flowe and the rest of the Upland Highlanders.
