Bettering Yourself

As first semester has come to a close, it is time to prepare for the next. After New Years goes by, making resolutions has been a social norm for as long as remembered, yet many common resolutions are easily given up; such as dieting, exercising more, and losing weight – which are the top three resolutions made by people in the United States.
Bettering yourself should be at the top of those priorities, whether that is a mental health break, putting things into perspective, or doing self-care.
Not only will you feel more refreshed, but you will also begin the routine of putting your needs first.
Bettering yourself comes in all shapes and sizes- whether it’s the simplest things like sharing a smile. Growing and helping others grow can help further your journey into bettering yourself.
There is nothing more meaningful than to pursue a life of personal development and betterment. It is through improving ourselves that we get the most out of life.
By creating these self-love habits, you will help yourself stay grounded in loving energy, which will support your well-being.
When talking to Marissa Marten, Rancho Cucamonga High School’s junior class vice president, she was able to share her point of view on the importance of bettering yourself.
She shares, “Self-love to me it’s really important because it’s the process of taking care of yourself and embracing who you are, a lot of the time express the importance of being kind to others but it is so important to be kind to yourself first”.
A few examples of self-love habits could be thanking yourself.
Even if it is for the simplest things like making your bed, going on a weekly date with yourself, spending time tuning in to how you are feeling daily, checking in with your heart, affirmations said out loud each morning, and compliment yourself.
As Marten starts off the new year, she shares some short-term goals she set for herself this year. “To grow relationships with my family and others on campus, in ASB I want to reach for a higher position because I love teaching and I want to help others grow the same way I have” Marten expresses enthusiastically.
The first step you take comes from you, the decisions you make or don’t, the people you love or don’t, the money you give or don’t, or the things you love or don’t is all created by the relationship we have with ourselves.
To change the outside, we must begin by committing to change the inside as well.
