Tame Impala released its first album, Interspeak, in the summer of 2010, though the Australian indie-pop band did not start gaining world renowned popularity until they released “Currents” in 2015. This album houses one of their most popular songs, “The Less I Know, The Better”, which has over 278 million streams on Spotify.
The album became so favored that it landed Tame Impala as a headliner at one of the biggest music festivals in the world; Coachella – where they performed alongside some of the most recognizable pop behemoths, including Ariana Grande and Childish Gambino. Performing at this event instantly made Tame Impala into a household name,; tripling their streams after the festival.
The Australian band was such a showstopper at Coachella last year that they have already been booked for the music festival again this year. A now avid fan of their music, Rancho Cucamonga High School senior, Lauren Franklin, said that the music festival is what exposed her to the band, and they are now one of her favorites.
Coachella is the event that elevated Tame Impala’s music into the mainstream, as it allowed them to receive a new wave of recognition. Their popularity continues to grow as their new album, Slow Rush, is expected to drop by January of 2020, and since the band’s Coachella debut they have released 3 new songs: “It Might Be Time”, “Borderline”, and the six minute tribute to the main singer’s father, “Posthumous Forgiveness”.
Senior Sydney Tompson, says that she believes Tame Impala’s music is so popular because their music reaches a large group of people. With their unique and euphoric sound, anyone can like their music no matter their usual musical tastes.
Tame Impala’s ability to reach everyone with their music is what is making them into world renowned artists. Tame Impala has only started their impact in the music industry, and they will continue to release new music that will become more popular and reach more people than any of their other albums.
