Whether you’re single, taken, or , it’s complicated, everyone can find some way to enjoy a holiday like Valentine’s day. Unless you hate chocolate, it is almost impossible to despise a day like this.
Not everyone spends Valentines dwelling on a break up or how perfect their relationship is, it is okay to take the day and treat yourself.
For those who do enjoy this day there are so many things you can do other than just going on a date to the movies.
It’s hard to guess what students have planned for this special day, when I asked senior Bella Allen what her plans were she said, “As of right now I don’t have any.”
No doubt though that she will still be enjoying a night binge watching some Netflix while snacking on her favorites, “ Kit Kats or gummy worms”. Her go to movie would be, “ Sixteen Candles” which is appropriate, a high school girl having to choose between two love interests all while celebrating her 16th birthday.
It’s not the worst idea to kick back, relax and take the day to watch some old rom-com classics. Such as, The Notebook, Valentines Day, The Vow, Romeo and Juliet, and others can seriously get you in the spirit of Valentines.
When I asked which gift she’d rather receive, chocolates, flowers, or a card with a meaningful message, Bella said, “I would rather receive a card with a meaningful note in it”. chocolates and flowers can come all year, and as wonderful as they are, a meaningful message to someone you care for, can go so much further!
It’s important to remember that no matter what situationship you are in, there’s always a way to enjoy yourself on this day or any other.
Alone, or with friends, it’s healthy to do some of your favorite things just because!
Take some time to do a face mask, listen to your favorite music or pour a big bowl of your favorite chips. Just appreciate you.
Give yourself some love and forget about all your stress this Valentines Day!!
