Skateboarding began in the late 1940s to the early 1950s, further through the years it has become more and more popular as a sport and hobby.
In today’s time, it has impacted and shown younger people a way of having fun or either having a hobby that could be used during their free time. It falls through many categories, for example, it can be considered a sport through using your body movements on the skateboard. It also has introduced people to new things or even new friends, it’s a hobby to bring people together and make new friends.
One of the most popular things that has changed in skating would be the clothing, example being thrasher, a more variety of people wear that brand now than back then because of how skating has become popular around school.
Another thing that has evolved through the years would be the tricks, we now see new tricks that hasn’t been seen years ago, so the improvement in tricks is a big involvement in today. Most people would see skating as just a way of getting around places, but to some other people it’s a way to show themselves, to free their mind and to escape reality by skating either alone or with friends.
Most skaters can learn lessons by skating and that’s a big thing in today’s generation where mainly younger skater students learn by just this hobby of theirs or even has impacted them. Junior, Cameron Valdez, who has been skating for about 6 years says,”Skating has definitely impacted me as a person because it has shown me how to respect others and patience.”
Skating would also be considered a way of showing art but through skateboarding, teacher here at Rancho Cucamonga High School, Mr.Spiteri stated,”What I see from a different perspective coming from a skateboarder is the way I look at the world, I look at things and think of skate tricks and do different architecture on the curves or bumps. Skateboarders can express themselves in a different manner and they see the world a little differently.”
Instead of painting, drawing or making music, skaters use their way of showing their artistic ability or mind by the way they see skating when going places or even performing tricks. That’s another thing that has changed in the years of skating, of using the ability and mind to find new ways of skating, we even look by watching other people teach tricks and how to handle a skateboard. Since we have more access to the internet now than people did back then, more skaters can look at skating videos online to help them get better and better everyday in this hobby and sport of theirs.
People who want to get more involved and learn to skateboard, go get more involved, even if you aren’t good at first, it’s normal, you practice and keep on practicing to get better.
