Many people find themselves not knowing what they want to do after high school. With all the options available, it’s about time to choose what’s right for you.
While attending a university directly after high school is strongly encouraged by counselors, teachers, and parents, college isn’t for everyone. Some people may not consider all the options they have: college, work, and the military.
Rancho Cucamonga High School senior, Isaiah Castiglione, spoke on why the military would be a great option and why he chose to join, “The military is very beneficial, it will help me pay for college if I intend on going. It will [also] show me great discipline and it is something I have always wanted to do.”
Castiglione will be joining the Marine Corps after graduating from Rancho Cucamonga High School this upcoming May. Castiglione’s perspective on joining the military should be used to guide any students who are considering this life decision.
Joining the military doesn’t always mean that you are missing out on a college degree. The military not only encourages your college education, they’ll pay for it. The GI Bill provides educational assistance to service members, veterans, and their dependents.
A recruiter from Coast Guard, officer Addarich, believes “The military is an amazing way to figure your life out, meet new people and travel.” He has been working with the military for about nine years, he intended to just do six years, but he loved it so much he stayed longer. He was just going to do it for experience and now it’s his dream. If he never tried out the military he wouldn’t have found the passion he has now. He continued with some advice: “You’ll never know what the future holds, so don’t hold back.”
The military would also be a great option to choose because not knowing what to do with your future is very stressful. Not many people like to just sit around and do nothing so joining the military will give you time and maybe even an idea on what you would like to do with your life.
As long as you have the mindset and a goal ahead, the military would be a great option. The military consists of leadership, trust and bravery. If those are characteristics you might have, looking into different branches will hopefully catch your eye and change your mind on your future or help with the decision some might be having on their future.
