Thumbs up, subscribing and the agonizing wait as you stare at your screen in horror before the ‘skip ad’ pops up. Being a creator and having a space to display your imagination demands hard work. Making sure you are presenting your art in a way that is genuine to you, is the only way viewers will come in.
Authenticity is obvious. Starting with the simple rule of not being afraid to put yourself out there.
When you have the desire to start a Youtube channel, planning and consistency will be your best friends. Creating a schedule that is realistic, yet having content often so your audience doesn’t forget about your platform. I had the pleasure of interviewing Jingle Jangle ASMR (I’ve been a fan for awhile yee), an established Youtube creator with nearly 40,000 subscribers, her advice is, “The more videos you make, the more you’ll explore your own creative process and the more natural everything will start to feel.”
Promoting. Posting about your video on all social media and even sending it to people in your contacts! Videos become noticed with heavy word of mouth. When it comes to being paid as a creator we all have unanswered questions. Jingle Jangle says, “In short, when a creator hits one thousand subs they’re able to submit for monetization! Once YouTube approves the channel, ads can be placed on videos and the creator will receive a very small amount of money when those ads are watched and interacted with.” Senior, Austin Santibanez, a filmmaker and aspiring Youtube creator, talks about reaching an audience. “I want to learn how to make more connections and be able to brand myself better.”
I myself have a music Youtube Channel (bethy styles) SEE promo! HA! Anyways, I have met so many incredible friends from different places around the world. Even writing music with online friends I have never met! The outlet of Youtube has become my beautiful way for young women songwriters to support each other. Find what Youtube means to you. Jingle Jangle says it best, “The greatest benefit is human connection and getting to virtually know people you otherwise wouldn’t have crossed paths with.”
I have learned to never be afraid of fitting a mold, whether I want to post an original song or original poetry. Collab with friends and have an adventure while scoping out places to film, these will become some of your best memories. Santibanez says, “Starting a channel is where EVERYONE is able to show their talent, whether it’s food, art, makeup or whatever you want.” Every human being has talent, it is your turn to show it.
