Job Fair 2020

On March 5th 2020, upperclassmen attending Rancho Cucamonga High School had the opportunity to attend a job fair through Chaffey Joint Union School District. This opportunity gave students a chance to interact with different employers, learn new skills by communicating with those they are interviewing with and advance in their current job positions.

Around one hundred students from each school within the district came and met up at the Ontario Convention Center. Alongside this large group of students,  around ninety employers seeking employees set up booths and waited for the applications to start rolling in. Possible employers spoke to students about their companies and their qualifications.

Paige Pulley, a senior who attended the annual event, said, “The job fair was an amazing chance to get out and find a job or even future career.”

She explained it lasted around two hours and gave students a different perspective on what jobs are out there, the job fair encourages students to look at their options and find a job path that suits them. Students were able to walk around the convention center freely, seeking out jobs that truly interested them without any outside pressure. Students dressed nicely and brought their resumes in order to stand out among their peers. Many students were asked what interests them and what they were planning to pursue after high school.

According to Taylor Chambers, another senior who attended the job fair, employers were “excited to speak with kids from all the high schools.” Not only were the students putting themselves out there in order to find a job, but employers were also eager to find potential employees and look within a younger crowd.

Matt Gardner, a staff member at Rancho Cucamonga High School who played a large role in planning this event for our students, shared the success of this event, “They’re able to meet these companies and turn in their resume,” he explained, “some of them actually got hired on the spot.”

Others were given follow up interviews, connections with the company, and they were able to truly get a feel for what they want to explore as a career and what they enjoy working with.

Overall, this event was beneficial for all of our students, allowing them to get a head start on adult life with the help of Chaffey Joint Union School District and the companies who attended.
